Go citrus for varicose veins. To reduce the appearance of varicose veins, add extra citrus fruits, grapes, cherries and apricots to your diet. If eaten regularly, these foods can help improve the elasticity of blood vessels.
Go around in circles. Always apply your moisturiser or body scrub in a circular motion from the ankle up as this boosts the circulation of the blood in legs, facilitating lymphatic drainage and boosting circulation and, therefore, skin health.
Get smooth. For an instant lift to the legs, de-fuzz. Smooth legs look more shapely than hairy ones because the hair can visually reduce the skin’s lines and make them appear bigger, especially from a distance. To have thin pins, wax, shave or use a depilation cream regularly and moisturise afterwards.
Hold them high. To improve the skin and tone of your lower leg, try to get your feet above your head for at least ten minutes a day to improve the circulation and blood flow. Lie on the floor with your feet on a chair, stretch out on the sofa with your feet propped up on the arm when watching television, or even sneak a nap on the bed with your feet up on a couple of pillows.
Bronze up. For a quick fix to make your legs glow, use a body brush to rub off dead skin and then apply moisturiser with a bronzing pigment to give them a healthy glow in just five minutes, or use normal moisturiser followed by bronzing powder or gel.
Step it up. There’s no better way to give yourself shapely calves than walking up and down stairs. Ban yourself from using elevators, lifts or escalators for a month and you will see visible difference.
Avoid crossed legs. To reduce swelling in ankles, feet and toes and to prevent the appearance of varicose veins, train yourself not to sit with crossed legs, as this can put strain on blood and lymph vessels and encourage fluid to build up.
Jet legs with cold water. Finish your shower with a jet of cold water aimed at your lower legs. Not only will this stimulate skin, but it will help constrict the blood vessels in the area, too, boosting the overall appearance.
Boost circulation. Sometimes, ‘big looking’ legs may not be fat, but appear heavy because of bad circulation. Put your legs and feet up above hip level for half an hour a day to help fluid flow. If you suffer from varicose veins, this will also help reduce the strain in blood vessels.
